Things to do in the Hawkes Bay

Things to do

After the devastating 1931 earthquake, one of New Zealands largest natural disasters, the Art Deco heritage in Napier was cherished even more and is fascinating to explore.

Maori history is rich and exciting with a myriad of cultural experiences to immerse your self in. Food, art and wine trails are prevalent right across the region and be sure to catch an International Cricket match during the summer season.

Children are easily entertained at attractions including the National Aquarium, Marineland and Splash Planet Water Park, while those wanting a slower pace can soak in Napier’s Ocean Spa hot pools, overlooking the Pacific.

Long secluded beaches and rugged ranges offer excellent walking and tramping opportunities. Wade through the region's many rivers in search of the brown trout, join a deep-sea fishing charter or take a walk though one of our native scenic bush reserves.

Why not go for a ride on any of the mapped cycling routes and wine tours, or a four-wheel drive safari or take a flight in a 1936 de Havilland Tiger Moth – all must do’s when visiting beautiful Central Hawke’s Bay.

Shopping and the arts are also well represented in Napier, with plenty of retail therapy on offer and studios and galleries dotted throughout the region, as well as stately gardens and colonial architecture.

Be sure to ask us here at The County Hotel, about how we can help you plan the trip, conference, wedding or getaway of a life time while here in Hawke’s Bay, we have sample itineraries available and we are quite happy to personalise an itinerary for you.
